Villacorta Family

April 26, 2021

Edgar Villacorta is a single dad of four children and owns a trucking company in Midland, Georgia. He was born in Peru and moved to the United States in 1998 to become an international student. Later, his mother joined him in America to help him care for his four children.

At the height of the pandemic, Edgar’s trucking company became very burdened. Two of his drivers contracted the virus and had to sleep inside the truck cabs to isolate themselves, so they would not infect their families. He still paid these employees their full salary even though they could not work. He used his savings to pay for salaries, insurance, gasoline and truck maintenance while his company significantly lost business.

Many members of Edgar’s family died from the coronavirus. His brothers, cousins and uncles all died within the span of 15 days and over the course of the year 22 people died in his family. Edgar is happy to report his business is now returning to normal. He believes it is always best to keep moving forward and is grateful for everything he still has.
