Feel at Home in Your New Neighborhood

1. Explore on Foot

Walking through your new neighborhood is the best way to take it all in—you’ll have more time to look around and focus on discoveries you might not notice while driving by. It also gives you more chances to connect with your neighbors.

2. Introduce Yourself

It’s always nice to have friends nearby, and not just because it’s fun to chat. People you trust in your neighborhood can help out in emergencies or keep an eye on your house while you’re away. Be proactive about meeting your neighbors by hosting a barbecue, leaving notes in their mailbox, or even just knocking on their door to say hi.

3. Shop Small

Local stores, gyms, and restaurants are the main things that make a neighborhood unique. Instead of shopping and dining at chains that deliver the same old experience everywhere, give mom and pop places a chance. You may find a new favorite.

4. Get Involved

A community isn’t defined by its geography but by the people who make it up. If you really want to feel like a part of your new neighborhood, play an active role in maintaining its atmosphere and driving positive change. Join a club or get some neighbors together to work on projects that will make your neighborhood a nicer place to live.

With a little effort, your whole neighborhood could become just as much of a comfort zone as your house. We hope you have fun making new friends and discovering all there is to see.
