Energy Efficiency Tips

To get started, we highly recommend conducting an energy audit of your entire house. Thoroughly inspect your floors, ceilings, HVAC systems, windows, and exterior to check for areas that need more insulation and gaps where heat might escape. Sealing and insulating inefficient parts of your house may cost a lot up front, but your savings should more than make up for the expense over time.

Alongside the audit, there are plenty of simpler things you can do to improve your home’s energy efficiency. Here’s a list of suggestions:

  • Use natural light as much as possible
  • Buy LED light bulbs
  • Turn off lights when you leave the room
  • Use dishwashers and clothes washers/dryers at night
  • Wash clothes in cold water
  • Air dry clothes and dishes
  • Keep your refrigerator full
  • Replace filters regularly
  • Close blinds and drapes in warmer months
  • Turn off electronics when not in use
  • Don’t leave your phone plugged in overnight
  • Use ceiling fans to eliminate or reduce the need for air conditioning
